Entry Tax in Punjab increased by 0.5% w.e.f 18-09-2012

Entry Tax rates has been enhanced by the Excise & Taxation Department, Punjab by 0.5% on all the goods w.e.f 18-09-2012. This increase has been made and also was expected after the increase in the VAT rates by 0.5% on almost all the goods under Punjab VAT Act, 2005. 

However no notification confirming the increase in entry tax rates is available as yet but a public notice to this effect has been issued which confirms the increase in the rates of entry tax rates w.e.f 18-09-2012.


Public notice also states that VAT rates under Punjab VAT Act, 2005 on Dal i.e Pulses and unbranded besan has also been increased by 0.5% w.e.f 18-09-2012.


In the context of entry tax, it should be noted that entry tax has already been stayed by Punjab & Haryana High Court in Bhushan Steel case and any person who wants to claim deferment from payment of entry tax on the basis of the stay by the High Court may still apply for the same as per the General Circular of the Department dt. 29-04-2011 by filing the requisite undertaking and affidavit.
